Today’s hike was to an old structure attributed to a monk, Friar Pere (1583-1658), also known as “Pare Pere”, where he devoted a lot of time to spiritual retreat, prayer and meditation and also where the hermitage which bears his name was built in homage to him. The traditional story states that Friar Pere Esteve used the stone shed to take refuge during a period around 1633. The shed is a vaulted structure built out of stone and difficult to access.
From there I hiked along a very established footpath as it serpentined through the foothills of Montgó as it gently ascended until I reached a point where I felt I should return home.
But I enjoyed this hiking route very much and I will definitely frequent this camino as I believe it will eventually lead me up and over the mountain to other destinations on my bucket list.
Today’s hike was just over eight miles, absolutely delightful, and one of my best thus far! Photos from today’s hike can be seen here: https://mctrohn.com/pare-pere-hike
